Agusan, CDO Residents Want Buried Water Spring Revived

Residents of Barangay Agusan, Cagayan de Oro wants to revive a once-flowing water spring after it was buried and covered with rocks and sand in the village. In a talk with Sios-e Online News Magazine recently, some residents who claimed they represent the sentiments of many people, even outside of the barangay, said that construction of a new building by a local utility firm has led to an unfortunate burying of the spring. They said many people have benefited from the free water source for hundreds of years only to be deprived of the natural resource early this year. What irked them, they said, is that the local utility group happens to be Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD.) It was learned that negotiations have been going on between concerned parties including the local barangay council and City Hall. While there seemed to be a breakthrough in their quest to have the spring placed back to its original condition at least, the residents want action done right away. Another issue the COWD building construction has made for the concerned residents is the possible flooding due to the narrowing of the creek located adjacent to the COWD lot and where also the buried spring is located.
